About Vape Batteries

Batteries are an essential part of vaping - without them there would be no power to hear the coil and turn your e-liquid into the vapour that is then inhaled. All vape kits use batteries, whether it is a low powered pod kit or a high-powered advanced vape kit, every device requires a battery in order to be used. Not all vape devices use external batteries though. Some mods may require dual rechargeable 18650 batteries, whilst others, such as a disposable vape, will use a built-in single-use 550mAh battery. However, every battery that is found inside a vape device will be a Li-ion battery.

When browsing our range of rechargeable batteries, you will notice that there is a number attached to them. So, what does this number represent? It may seem a little confusing at first, but breaking this number down simply represents the size of the battery.

18650

A 18650 battery is the most popular and common type that is used for vaping. Most vape mods you'll come across will take a 18650 battery. They are18mm in diameter, 65mm in height and the 0 represents the battery’s cylindrical shape. A lot of mods will typically require two of these types of batteries.

21700

21700 batteries are larger in size at 21 mm in diameter and 70 mm in height. This larger size results in these batteries offering more power, giving an extra bit of boost to provide a more powerful vaping experience. These batteries are intended for use with the mods that have very high power outputs.

Vape Battery Safety Tips

It's essential to know how to use vape batteries safely in order to ensure a safe and fun vaping experience. Refer to manufacturer guidelines to ensure a safe and satisfying vaping experience. know how to pick the right vape battery for your specific device. In the meantime, here are a few quick but essential tips to help you learn the basic:

  • Use Authentic Batteries: Counterfeit batteries may lack proper safety features and could pose a risk to your device and yourself. It is essential to use batteries from known, trusted brands which is why we stock our batteries from Molicel, a long standing and reputable battery brand.
  • Battery Storage: When not in use, store your vape batteries in a cool and dry place. Avoid exposing them to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, or moisture, as these conditions can damage the battery and compromise its performance.
  • Battery Wraps: Regularly inspect the battery wraps for any signs of wear, tears, or damage. If you notice any issues with the wrap, it's essential to rewrap the battery using insulating materials specifically designed for that purpose. Damaged wraps can potentially cause short circuits or expose the battery to conductive surfaces, leading to safety risks.
  • Correct Charging: Always use a dedicated battery charger designed for your specific battery type. Avoid charging batteries overnight or leaving them unattended while charging. Follow the manufacturer's guidelines regarding charging currents and recommended charge levels to prevent overcharging or over-discharging, which can affect battery performance and safety.

Batteries FAQs

The majority of vape batteries last between 6-12 months, but it will largely come down to the frequency the battery is used and how well it is looked after and maintained. Whilst some believe that rechargeable batteries last forever, this is simply not the case. Every battery has what is known as a charge cycle, and this refers to how many times the battery can be recharged before needing to be replaced. Using a charger with multiple bays can also help to extend the lifespan of your battery as they long longer when charged slowly.

There are different types of batteries used for vaping. While some devices will have built-in batteries that are charged via USB port type C, others have removable batteries.

You can recycle your batteries in the UK with ease. To find the nearest place where you can recycle the batteries from your vape, use Recycle Now. As well as this, many UK supermarkets and corner shops will collect your batteries for recycling.

Yes, you can take a maximum of two vape batteries on a plane with you. Most airlines will require any vapers carrying lithium-ion batteries with them to carry them in their hand luggage.

Yes, disposable vapes do use batteries. However, unlike mods these batteries are built-in, internal batteries that cannot be removed and not rechargeable. They are significantly less powerful than the external batteries that are used in vape mods, offering a more discreet, mouth-to-lung vaping experience.

The charging time for vape batteries can vary depending on several factors. Typically, it takes around 2 to 4 hours to charge a vape battery fully. However, charging times can differ based on the capacity, the charger used, and the charging method.

Connect one end of the battery charger to the battery and the other end to a power source, such as a wall adapter or USB port. Ensure a stable connection and make sure the charger's LED indicator confirms that charging has begun, allowing it to charge fully before removing. Avoid leaving it unattended while charging and keep it away from flammable materials. Once fully charged, disconnect the battery charger from the battery and power source. Remember to store the battery safely until you're ready to use it.

Don't charge your vape batteries overnight - it's best to only use your charger when you can be in the same room and keeping an eye on it. If you leave rechargeable batteries charging overnight there's a risk that they might overcharge or catch alight.
